Here’s Patric’s story of how he started with Summerley and how he got to where he is now!
Patric’s Summerley Recruitment Journey
Looking back at the past four years, I can honestly say this journey has shaped me both professionally and personally in ways I never expected. What began as a student job in 2022 has grown into a career path, a community, and a network of relationships that feel like family.
Where It All Began
It all started in 2022 as a student looking for work experience and a way to support myself in the United Kingdom. I joined Summerley as a bartender and front of house team member, stepping into a world that was completely different from my background as an engineer.
Very early on, I experienced how special this team was. One of my favourite early memories was attending the dinner at The Grand Hotel in Brighton, celebrating when Sam won the Young Achiever Award in 2022. Being there as part of the team made me feel proud and excited about the journey ahead.
Soon after, I began working at the fast-paced and exciting Formula One event at Silverstone. Within just four months, I progressed into a Team Lead role at Mercedes Benz World which was a milestone that meant a great deal to me and showed me what hard work and consistency can achieve.
Mentorship and Support
One of the most important parts of this journey has been the guidance and encouragement from Sam. As an international student who arrived in the UK knowing no one, having someone believe in my potential made an enormous difference.
Even after graduation, I continued working part-time with Summerley. That continuity speaks volumes about the culture of the agency — it never felt like just a job. It felt supportive, encouraging, and genuinely invested in my growth.
Experience Across Incredible Events
Over the last four years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a wide range of events, including:
- Weddings
- Festivals
- Corporate events
- Major sporting events
- Charity events
- Private events
Every event brought new lessons, new challenges, and new opportunities to grow. Over time, clients began requesting me back — a moment that felt incredibly rewarding and reaffirmed that my effort and dedication were being noticed.
A Full-Circle Moment
Last year marked another big step in my journey. I moved to Chichester and transitioned into working with Summerley full-time as a Recruitment Consultant.
Moving from being placed at events to helping place others into roles felt like a true full-circle moment. It allowed me to bring my firsthand experience into a new role, helping others find opportunities just as I once did.
More Than Just Work
When I first arrived in the UK, I knew no one. Today, I can confidently say I’ve built friendships that feel like family.
Summerley has given me far more than work opportunities. It has given me:
- A support system
- Mentors and guidance
- Lasting friendships
- A sense of belonging
The relationships I’ve built with colleagues, clients, and teams across countless events are the most meaningful part of this journey.
Looking Back — and Ahead
If you had told the younger me — the engineer stepping into hospitality for the first time — that this would become a career path, I wouldn’t have believed you. But this journey has been built on consistency, hard work, and simply showing up every day with a smile and a willingness to learn.
Four years later, I’m still here. Still growing. Still grateful. And this chapter is only the beginning.
